Ireland fans hail 'great squad' as Andy Farrell names 37 strong panel for Six Nations

Ireland fans have hailed the latest Ireland squad announcement as 'great' as Andy Farrell has assembled a 37 strong panel for the upcoming Six Nations.

There was a surprise exclusion of James Lowe and it transpired that a muscle injury ruled out the Leinster winger from the upcoming tournament.

And among the squad are three previously uncapped players in Ulster's Mike Lowry and Connacht's Mack Hansen.

And the usual familiar faces make the squad including Conor Murray, Johnny Sexton and James Ryan.

And Ireland fans were happy with the latest announcements and were bullish about the upcoming tournament.

One Ireland fan wrote: "Great squad the best of luck in the Six Nations"

While another said: "Huge congratulations to every one selected. For those who are injured or missed out on selection, we’re all thinking of you today too"

And another added: "Great squad, high hopes for the Six Nations. Delighted to see Lowry, Hume, Prendergast and Carty in there. Time to get excited."

Speaking after naming his squad, Andy Farrell said: “In November we challenged the group to get up to speed quickly so that the team could perform at international level. The same will apply for this Six Nations campaign, we need to be at our best against Wales on the opening weekend.

“We have a strong squad with competition for places across the board, there is a nice blend of experienced internationals and guys who have had their first taste of this level in the past 12 months. The games in November gave us a good foundation to build on and areas where we know we will have to improve.

“It will be an exciting Championship with so many strong squads and impressive performances across the board during the autumn.”
