Ireland Eurovision hopefuls Wild Youth promise 'big and bold' performance in Liverpool

The frontman of Ireland’s Eurovision hopefuls Wild Youth has promised a “big and bold” performance at this year’s show in Liverpool.

The four-piece outfit will be heading to represent Ireland in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 9 with their song, We Are One.

Lead singer Conor O’Donohoe said that the band’s chosen song was the perfect fit for the contest, as it lives up to both the size and stature of the famous song competition, and that he will be going under a training regime to get ready for the contest.

O’Donohoe explained: “We’re definitely not taking any shortcuts, and it will definitely be as big and bold as you think it’s going to be.

“I don’t want to give anything away. It’s all very, very cool.”

Irish band Wild Youth have been chosen to represent Ireland at the Eurovision this year following a live Eurosong selection process on the Late Late Show (RTE)

Revealing the creative process for writing the song, which focuses on unity and togetherness, O’Donohoe added: "I just wanted to write a good song and have it at the Eurovision.

“But the Eurovision for me is also such a big stage, I wanted to write a song that could live up to the stature and the size of the stage and the arena.”

O’Donohoe also said that getting the other band members, Callum McAdam, Ed Porter and David Whelan, on board wasn’t difficult, saying: “I think David’s as big a Eurovision fan as I am; Cal just loves playing the drums so once he’s on a stage and he’s playing the drums he’s happy, and Ed totally bought in and believed in the vision too.”
