Ireland AM star Alan Hughes' hospital visit amid cancer scare

Ireland AM presenter Alan Hughes said he missed a number of TV appearances amid a health scare.

The panto star posted an update from a hospital bed after having to undergo a number of tests. He, however, reassured fans that his health appeared to be okay but "a few things came up on blood tests," RSVP reports.

Alan said he was worried about cancer after losing both his siblings to the disease. He said: "A few things came up on blood tests and I had to go in for some procedures and everything seems fine.

"Well not the total all clear, but they put my mind at ease. Given my brother and sister both died from cancer, I do always have the worry.

"When I hear the word I shudder. I think I have become a bit of a hypochondriac and I'm keen to get everything checked out."

He added: "I've to go do more bloods in a couple of months' time but at the moment everything is okay, but it always is a worry

The star told the Sunday World that there were several reasons he wanted to go see a doctor.

"I wasn't feeling well and I was going 'there's definitely something here you know.'

"I had stomach problems and things like that, because I've had ulcers and I have a hiatushernia. So, I'm always very careful about that."

Alan said he was overwhelmed by the amount of messages he received from concerned fans as well as fellow celebs.

"It's gas, you put a little thing up and you get hundreds of messages, just so many people and so many well-known people getting in touch with you that you don't realise follow on Instagram or follow you on TV."
