Ireland AM's Elaine Crowley apologises after career-first gaffe on morning show

TV presenter Elaine Crowley was quick to apologise after swearing live on air during Friday morning's edition of Ireland AM.

Presenting alongside Martin King, Elaine welcomed League of Ireland rivals Sean Boyd and Joe Redmond to preview tonight's Dublin derby between Shelbourne and St Patrick's Athletic.

Closing out the segment, Elaine and Martin were tasked with a footballing challenge in which the broadcasters attempted to take shots at a number of targets with different numerical values.

Elaine made it clear that she was dreading the challenge and her frustration got the better of her early on.

"I did change my shoes, I had very colourful heels on," Elaine told viewers. "So I have flip flops, which are more suitable but they're still no football boots. I'm mortified already."

After walloping her first effort against the board, Elaine badly mishit her second attempt, prompting a four-letter cry of frustration from the Cork native.

"Oh, shit!" she exclaimed, before an immediate apology towards the camera.

"I'm so sorry!! I've never cursed on live television before."

Ever the professional, Elaine committed to another few efforts with little success, while Martin enjoyed slightly better luck with his shooting and even managed to hit one of the targets.

Martin concluded: "Neither Elaine nor I will be involved in any of the football action tonight but we look forward to seeing you on the field again soon."

As the segment drew to a close, Elaine anticipated that she might be in "so much trouble" with her producers but it was all taken in her stride.
