A top commander in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard was reportedly killed in an airstrike on the country’s consulate building in Damascus, Syria, as per Iranian state-affiliated media. The Iranian Quds Force commander Mohammad Reza Zahedi was among those who lost their lives in the attack, as reported by IRGC-affiliated Fars News.
Iranian ambassador Hossein Akbari stated that the building was allegedly targeted by Israeli missiles, resulting in the deaths of between five to seven individuals. Akbari mentioned being in his office at the embassy during the attack and witnessing the destruction firsthand.
Syrian state media also confirmed the incident, reporting that 'an Israeli act of aggression targeted a building in Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus.' The strike caused significant damage to the building and neighboring structures, as per Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
When approached for a statement regarding the event, the Israel Defense Forces declined to comment on foreign reports.
