Iranian President's Helicopter Crashes In Mountainous Region

Chile's former President Sebastian Pinera dies in helicopter crash

The geolocation of the crash site of the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has been confirmed by the news outlet. The incident took place in the mountainous region of Varzeghan, near the village of Uzi, in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province. Drone footage and images captured by the Iranian Red Crescent and shown on state media revealed the wreckage on a steep, tree-covered hillside.

The tragic accident occurred as President Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian were returning from a ceremony to inaugurate a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan, as reported by the state news agency. The crash claimed the lives of seven other individuals who were also on board the helicopter.

The crash site is located approximately 38 miles (61 kilometers) from the dam site on the Iran-Azerbaijan border that the officials were visiting. The exact coordinates of the crash site are 38.7189° latitude and 46.6548° longitude. The initial geolocation of the site was conducted by an analyst on the Australian Strategic Policy Institute's Cyber, Tech & Security team (ASPI CTS), which was later confirmed by the news outlet.

The helicopter was en route to the city of Tabriz, Iran, when the tragic incident took place, as reported by a semi-official news agency. The details surrounding the crash are still under investigation as authorities work to determine the cause of the accident.
