Iranian President Raisi's Body To Be Transferred To Mashhad

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at a public rally in Mashhad

The body of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the other victims of Sunday's helicopter crash will be transferred on Tuesday from Tabriz to the northeastern city of Mashhad. Raisi, who was born in Mashhad in 1960, will be laid to rest in his hometown.

A public ceremony is set to be held at a prayer hall in Tabriz at 4 p.m. local time on Monday to honor the victims of the tragic accident. Following this, at 9 a.m. local time on Tuesday, a significant procession will accompany the bodies of Raisi and the other victims from Tabriz Martyr's Square to the city's airport.

From the airport, the bodies will be flown to Mashhad, where a final funeral service will be conducted. Raisi, prior to becoming the President of Iran, managed the influential charity Astan-e Quds-e Razavi, which oversees the revered Imam Reza shrine, a prominent Islamic pilgrimage site in Mashhad.
