Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed Iran's stance on the escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, stating that Tehran would not remain indifferent in the event of a full-scale war.
During a press conference in New York ahead of a UN Security Council meeting, Araghchi emphasized Iran's support for Hezbollah, describing it as the group's 'just cause to defend Lebanon' against Israel. He further stated, 'We stand with the people of Lebanon with all means.'
Araghchi urged the council to intervene and restore security in the region, cautioning that failure to act could lead to a full-scale conflict with dire consequences for the region.
The foreign minister's remarks come in the wake of Israeli strikes in Lebanon that resulted in the deaths of more than 80 people, as reported by Lebanon's health ministry. Israel's military confirmed targeting 70 Hezbollah intelligence facilities in its recent strikes, adding to the more than 2,000 targets hit over the past three days.
The situation remains tense as both Israel and Hezbollah continue to exchange fire, raising concerns about the potential for further escalation and the impact on civilian populations in the region.
