Recent statements from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have raised concerns over potential retaliatory actions against Israel in response to any attacks on Iran. According to local media reports, Brig. Gen. Ali Fadavi, the deputy commander of IRGC, warned that Iran could target Israel's power plants and gas refineries if provoked.
Fadavi emphasized Iran's capabilities as a large and vast country with numerous economic centers, contrasting it with Israel's limited number of energy sites. He stated that Iran could simultaneously target all of Israel's power plants and refineries in the event of an attack.
The warning comes in the aftermath of Iran's ballistic missile strikes on Israeli cities following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut. While the missile attacks caused minimal damage, they underscored Iran's readiness to respond to perceived threats.
In a separate statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated the country's stance on potential Israeli aggression. Araghchi cautioned that Iran would deliver a 'harsh response' to any attacks and clarified that previous actions were directed at Israeli security and military installations.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also weighed in on the situation, describing the recent attack on Israel as the 'least punishment.' Khamenei indicated that Iran would not hesitate to strike Israel again if necessary.
During a visit to Beirut, Araghchi met with Lebanese parliamentary Speaker Nabih Berri, a prominent Hezbollah ally involved in ceasefire negotiations with Israel. The discussions underscored Iran's close ties with Hezbollah and its commitment to regional stability.
