Following the deadly strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus last week, Iran's Mission to the UN has called for action from the United Nations to condemn the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The mission expressed that if the UN Security Council had condemned the aggression by the Zionist regime and taken steps to hold those responsible accountable, Iran may not have felt the need to retaliate against Israel.
While UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack on April 1, a Security Council discussion the following day failed to result in any formal action due to differences among members.
The United States is currently on high alert and actively preparing for potential retaliatory attacks by Iran targeting Israeli or American assets in the region in response to the strike in Damascus that resulted in the deaths of top Iranian commanders.
