Iran's foreign minister has described the recent Gaza ceasefire deal as a 'surrender' for Israel and reiterated Tehran's unwavering support for Hamas, as per a statement released by the country's foreign ministry.
During a phone call with Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip and leader of the movement's negotiating team in ceasefire discussions, Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, affirmed Iran's backing for the ceasefire agreement and commended Hamas on what he termed a 'victory' over Israel.
Araghchi highlighted that Hamas' steadfastness had compelled Israel to concede and agree to the ceasefire terms, including the prisoner exchange, as stated in the released statement.
In response, Hamas expressed gratitude towards Iran, attributing part of the truce's success to Iran's support during the conflict, particularly referencing Tehran's military actions against Israel in the previous year.
It is important to note that Iran stands as one of Hamas' key regional allies, providing the group with both financial aid and military assistance in its ongoing conflict with Israel.
