Iran Requests Emergency UN Meeting To Condemn Israeli Actions

United Nations in New York City

Iran's envoy to the United Nations has called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to strongly condemn Israel's recent actions following an attack in Beirut that resulted in the death of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah and a key ally of Iran.

The envoy's letter to the council's president emphasized the need for immediate and decisive action to halt Israel's alleged aggression and prevent further escalation that could lead to a regional catastrophe.

The letter accused Israel of carrying out a terrorist act by using bunker busters to target residential areas in Beirut, resulting in casualties including innocent civilians and an Iranian general.

Iran's envoy also criticized the Security Council for its perceived inaction in response to Israel's actions in Gaza over the past year, citing allegations of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

Furthermore, the envoy issued a strong warning against any potential attacks on Iran's diplomatic premises and representatives, asserting Iran's right to defend its national and security interests under international law.

In a related incident, Iran previously accused Israel of bombing its embassy complex in Syria, resulting in casualties including high-ranking officials from Iran's Revolutionary Guards. In retaliation, Iran launched a drone and missile attack on Israel, although no casualties were reported on the Israeli side.
