Iran has launched dozens of missiles at Israel in response to the assassinations of Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh. The Iranian government has stated that it has 'absolutely no interest in a broader war' and is acting in self-defense.
Government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani emphasized that Iran had previously shown restraint despite calls from its people to retaliate after the assassination of Haniyeh, as Iran was interested in peace in Gaza. Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran in July, with Israel widely believed to be behind the attack.
Mohajerani blamed Israel for escalating tensions in the region, stating that Iran will not allow its soil or dignity to be compromised. Iran fired a total of 200 ballistic missiles at Israel, with some reaching the ground in Israel and the occupied West Bank despite interception attempts by the Israeli military.
