Ipswich v Arsenal LIVE: Gunners dominate 10-man Tractor Boys to keep title hopes alive

Arsenal cantered to a 4-0 victory over Ipswich Town to end Liverpool's hopes of winning the Premier League title on Sunday, with Leandro Trossard scoring twice and the hosts' Leif Davis sent off for a dangerous tackle on Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal moved on to 66 points in second spot but Liverpool, who face relegation-threatened Leicester City later, still only need to win two of their remaining games to secure the crown.

After dominating the opening exchanges, Arsenal took the lead through Trossard in the 14th minute and Gabriel Martinelli doubled the advantage with a simple finish in the 28th minute before Davis was shown a straight red card for raking his studs down the back of Saka's leg.

Trossard grabbed his second in the 69th minute and Ethan Nwaneri added a late fourth to leave Ipswich stuck in 18th place on 21 points. They will be relegated if they drop points again or 17th-placed West Ham United pick up one more point from their remaining five games.

Sunday 20 April 2025 16:47 , Luke Baker

Arsenal denied Liverpool the opportunity to be crowned Premier League champions on Easter Sunday with a 4-0 victory against 10-man Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Leandro Trossard put Mikel Arteta’s side ahead after just 14 minutes and Gabriel Martinelli doubled their advantage shortly before the half-hour mark.

Ipswich were then forced to play for an hour with 10 players after Leif Davis was shown a straight red card for a late tackle on Bukayo Saka.

Trossard added his second on 69 minutes with substitute Ethan Nwaneri completing the rout two minutes from time.

And it’s another one for Arsenal! Ethan Nwaneri cuts in on his left foot and fires goalwards from just inside the box. It takes two deflections and ends up in the bottom corner!

Nwaneri barely celebrates and it may go down as an own goal eventually but they all count.

No hat-trick for Trossard as he’s subbed off, with youngster Nathan Butler-Oyedeji coming on.

Hirst shows his pace to burst past Kiwior but his cross is too long and goes all the way through the area.

A 100th Premier League appearance for Kieran Tierney as he comes on for Rice. Presumably Zinchenko will move into midfield. A straight swap of Raheem Sterling for Martinelli is the other change.

GOAL! Ipswich 0-3 Arsenal (Leandro Trossard, 69 mins)

Sunday 20 April 2025 15:33 , Luke Baker

A short corner finally works for Arsenal! Rice slips a pass into Leandro Trossard, who is inexplicably unmarked eight yards out, just to the left of the goal and he slots the ball through a defender’s legs and into the corner.

The second time he’s nutmegged en route to a goal today!

Martinelli’s shot is deflected wide for a corner. Again, Arsenal go short and they win another corner from Trossard’s blocked cross.

Ipswich struggling to get out of their own defensive third. They wina free-kick as Merino fouls Morsy, who reacts angrily and there’s a bit of afters between them. A talking-to from the ref and it calms down.

Saliba then pulls Taylor’s shirt in his own box but both men are holding so nothing doing in terms of a penalty.

Arsenal win an early corner. They go short, it’s worked to Odegaard at the byline, he flashes a shot goalwards and Palmer saves with his feet for another corner.

Short again, eventually Tuanzebe concedes a third corner in quick succession. They go short once more but this time Ipswich can run the ball out of danger. They survive.

Back underway at Portman Road

HALF-TIME! Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:52 , Luke Baker

A slightly breathless first half comes to an end. Arsenal have had 11 shots to Ipswich’s two and they’ve completely dominated.

Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli have scored nice goals, while Leif Davis was sent off to reduce Ipswich to 10 men. Bukayo Saka has been sublime other than his finishing, which has been diabolical.

It probably should be more than 2-0 to Arsenal and it’s hard to see a way back for Ipswich in the second half.

Five minutes of added time. Ipswich almost create something clear-cut as Hirst nods down a free-kick in a dangerous-looking area but they commit a foul and Arsenal clear.

At the other end, things are slightly frantic and there are some big challenges going in. eventually Hirst is pinged for a foul

MISS! Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal, 44 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:48 , Luke Baker

Actually, I say Saka has been sharp - his finishing has been off-kilter today. It’s another miss for the winger, who could have had a hat-trick.

He creates space on the left and Odegaard fires the ball into him but he pokes wide with the first-time effort. That should’ve beena goal

Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal, 42 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:44 , Luke Baker

Saka finds space as he runs off the shoulder of Burgess and he gets a shot away but it’s straight at Palmer and easy enough to deal with.

Saka has been looking sharp today - no idea how he hasn’t scored yet.

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:43 , Luke Baker

Not sure Leif Davis can have many complaints about this red card. Clumsy.

MISS! Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal, 38 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:40 , Luke Baker

Wow! Saka has to score there but makes a complete mess of it. Odegaard slips a ball through for him, he’s into the box, one on one with the goal at his mercy but skews the ball wide. You’d back him to score every time there!

Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal, 36 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:39 , Luke Baker

Huge boos every time Saka touches the ball now from the Ipswich crowd. How dare he let Leif Davis go through the back of him...

He almost delivers the perfect riposte as he drops a shoulder, cuts inside a defender and tries a patented curling shot into the far corner but it’s narrowly wide. Good effot.

Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal, 34 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:37 , Luke Baker

It’s sacrificial lamb time as Ipswich need to bring on a defender to replace the hole left by Davis and it’s Jack Clarke who’s hooked with Cameron Burgess coming on.

Jacob Greaves over to left-back as Burgess settles in at CB.

RED CARD! Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal (Leif Davis, 31 mins)

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:35 , Luke Baker

Oh no! Bad to worse for Ipswich. It’s clumsy and ugly from Leif Davis.

He challenges Saka from behind, it’s studs up and they rake down the back of Saka’s lower leg and foot. Not sure there was much malice there but it’s a naughty tackle, Saka goes down in some pain and the red card is brandished.

VAR quickly checks it and ratifies the decision as Saka receives treatment.

GOAL! Ipswich 0-2 Arsenal (Gabriel Martinelli, 29 mins)

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:31 , Luke Baker

What a team goal by Arsenal. Classy, classy stuff

Beautifully brought down by Trossard and he sends Saka scampering down the left. Beats Davis, great ball across to Merino who flicks a backheel on to Gabriel Martinelli arriving at the back post to slot home.

Stunning goal and a thoroughly deserved 2-0 lead.

Ipswich 0-1 Arsenal, 26 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:28 , Luke Baker

Enciso tries to counter for Ipswich but Merino hauls him down in the middle of the park to stop the danger. Yellow card for the Spaniard, who is playing back in midfield today rather than as a makeshift striker.

Saka then has a chance to shoot or fire a dangerous ball in as he enters the penalty area but a rare miskick from the England international.

CHANCE! Ipswich 0-1 Arsenal, 24 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:26 , Luke Baker

Martinelli marauds forward again and Tuanzebe produces another superb block to stop the cross, conceding a corner.

Rice goes short to Zinchenko, back to him to cross from a different angle and O’Shea nods behind for another corner.

Saka delivers this one and it’s a great ball to the back post, Merino gets a head on it from a couple of yards out, unmarked but he can’t hang long enough to get over the top of it and his header balloons over the bar. That was half a chance

Ipswich 0-1 Arsenal, 21 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:23 , Luke Baker

Arsenal still pressing for a second goal here. Martinelli runs at Tuanzebe a couple of times but the ex-Man United players stays strong.

Ipswich try a counter-attack and Clarke has options left and right but picks the wrong one as his attempted ball to Johnson goes out for a goal-kick. Davis to the left may have been better

WATCH: Trossard gives Arsenal the lead

GOAL! Ipswich 0-1 Arsenal (Leandro Trossard, 14 mins)

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:17 , Luke Baker

And Arsenal break the deadlock! Odegaard strides forward, slips in Saka and he squares the ball to Leandro Trossard in the centre of the box.

Good first touch with Morsy hanging off him, shows good strength and gets the shot through the legs of O’Shea and into the bottom corner. Lovely finish and a goal arsenal deserved.

Trossard chops back and dinks the ball neatly into Martinelli but he’s crowded out by Tuanzebe and it’s a goal-kick.

All very tight when Arsenal get into the final third at the moment, with the Tractor Boys happy to pile men behind the ball.

Ipswich 0-0 Arsenal, 10 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:11 , Luke Baker

First real attack from Ipswich, Enciso cuts in from the left and thumps a shot that is blocked by White quite close to him. There was power behind that and White goes down after feeling it. He’s back up shortly after and fine to carry on though.

Ipswich 0-0 Arsenal, 7 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:09 , Luke Baker

Good link-up between Odegaard and Saka, who plays a ball in to Trossard who takes a shot but Tuanzebe dives across to block behind for a corner.

The corner is whipped into the six-yard box but Ipswich clear. All Arsenal so far in terms of possession and territory

Ipswich 0-0 Arsenal, 5 mins

Sunday 20 April 2025 14:07 , Luke Baker

Martinelli drops deep and does brilliantly to spina man and release Zinchenko down the left to beat the press. It’s a lovely, flowing Arsenal move as the ball is switched to Trossard but they can’t get a shot away as the blue wall closes them down.

Ipswich then play a ball over the top for Hirst to chase but Raya is quick off his line to snuff out the danger

Ipswich 0-0 Arsenal, 3 mins

Bukayo Saka hoping for less off-pitch drama today

Sunday 20 April 2025 13:22 , Luke Baker

So Bukayo Saka starts for Arsenal - let’s hope it’s a less dramatic off-field day for the winger than against Real Madrid in midweek

Saka was confronted by Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal as he made his way down the tunnel at half-time of Arsenal’s victory at the Bernabeu.

The incident came after Saka had missed a first-half penalty in the Champions League quarter-final, with his attempted ‘Panenka’ saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Saka redeemed himself by chipping Courtois in the second half, with Arsenal progressing 5-1 on aggregate to reach the Champions League semi-finals for only the third time.

However, a heated moment came at the half-time break as the players went down the tunnel. Saka was approached by Carvajal, who grabbed the winger and said a word in his ear.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta vows to keep Liverpool waiting for title

Sunday 20 April 2025 12:29 , Luke Baker

Mikel Arteta has insisted Arsenal will not allow Liverpool the opportunity to be crowned Premier League champions on Easter Sunday.

Liverpool will claim the title with five matches remaining if Arsenal lose against Ipswich at Portman Road and they see off Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

But Arteta, who this week oversaw his side’s progression to the Champions League semi-finals with a stunning 2-1 victory at Real Madrid to complete a 5-1 aggregate triumph, said: “We will make sure that we win the game against Ipswich, and that (Liverpool winning the league) doesn’t happen.”
