Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction

Follow live coverage as Ipswich Town face AFC Bournemouth today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Ipswich Town FC 1 - 2 AFC Bournemouth

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

16:00

A painful game for Ipswich, who once again cannot keep hold of the lead. The first Premier League home win was moments away, but Enes Unal’s header cancelled out Conor Chaplin’s sweeping finish before Dango Ouattara netted the win deep into stoppage time. With Leicester drawing as well, it means that Keiran McKenna’s side moved further away from safety. Bournemouth, after a slow start, deserved the victory as they notched up a 2.78 xG compared to Ipswich’s 1.33. A damning game for Ipswich fans who have to continue their wait for a first home win of the season, but for Bournemouth they are hunting down European spots at a frightening pace, thanks to this 2-1 victory.

Bournemouth have now reached 10 corners in this game. They haven't had the delivery right for many as Ipswich clear this one well again. They are holding firm.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

15:34

Szomdics has a great chance to double the lead. The Irishman collects the ball just inside the box but his shot is denied by a sliding defender. Ipswich are showing that they are dangerous on the break still.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

15:32

Bournemouth are definitely cranking up the pressure in this game and for now Ipswich are responding to it. Christie has a shot through a load of bodies that Muric gathers well.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

15:29

Unal nearly makes an instant impact with his head. He beats his man to the ball but lacks control with his header as it flies over the ball.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

15:26

Some more attacking impetus as well with Smith, a full-back, coming off for Unal, a striker.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

15:25

Substitution Justin Dean Kluivert Dango Aboubacar Faissal Ouattara

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

15:21

Davis gets in to intercept Kerkez's cross at the vital moment. The clearance only goes as far as Semenyo, who has a shot that is deflected and gathered by Muric.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

15:17

Bournemouth nearly punished a poor corner from Ipswich but the home side were let off after Kluivert scuffed a shot or a cross. It was so bad, I am not too sure what it was.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

15:13

It looked like Ipswich were going to play themselves into trouble, a looping cross-field pass was somewhat managed by Davis. They manage to escape Bournemouth's press with Delap turning past Huijsen, who recovers well.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

15:11

Bournemouth taking control of this half in the opening parts. They haven't had an opening yet, but are just moving the ball around quickly.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

15:08

Back underway here and both teams remain unchanged.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:58

Bournemouth aren't afraid to try their luck from distance, with Muric either dealing with it competently or the Kosovan hasn't been tested. They have shown their quality in the build-up, with Semenyo and Kluivert both sparkling but they a missing the final touch. Ipswich have been beneficial in the area, so more balls into the box for their attackers to deal with could help them extend their lead.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:55

It has been a really good football game so far. Both teams are playing well, and know exactly how to exploit each other's weaknesses. Chaplin scored the only goal but Tavernier came close hitting the post for Bournemouth. Both sides have had their phases in the game and so far Ipswich are the ones who have made it count.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:51

HALFTIME: Ipswich 1-0 Bournemouth

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:49

I think this is what you call seeing out the half. Ipswich aren't venturing forward too much in the closing moments of the first period. Huijsen is allowed to move five-ten metres with the ball until he is met with a sea of blue shirts.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:44

Semenyo drags his shot wide. He is too strong for Hutchinson, too quick for Morsy's lunge but too careless with his shot to test Muric from the edge of the area.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:42

Kerkez has been relentless down Bournemouth's left side, he wins a corner off Morsy, that is headed over by Evanilson.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:40

WHAT A TACKLE! Morsy lingered on the ball for too long and allowed Kluivert to snatch in and win it back. He then gets played through and as he is just about to pull the trigger Burgess comes racing in and blocks the Dutchman's progress. Great defending!

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:38

Kluivert has been Bournemouth's best player today. He has floated across the front three, been decisive with his passes and tested Muric on a couple of occasions.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:35

Iraola has been agitated all afternoon, and has been shown a yellow card for dissent.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:34

OFF THE POST! It is all going on here. Tavernier fires a shot onto the post, and in the replay it looks as if he was already off celebrating. He had to reel it in. As that was happening Kluivert was on the floor and VAR was called into action again. No penalty though. VAR isn't in a giving mood today, it hasn't Christmas feels yet.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:32

Ipswich thought they had a second there. It was in the back of the net thanks to Burgess but Craig Pawson called for a foul as Chaplin dragged Semenyo down. VAR agreed and no goal.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:29

Taylor forces Kepa into a good save, firing a shot towards goal and it takes a nasty deflection that the Spaniard reacts well to.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:29

It is an uncharacteristically limp Bournemouth performance so far. They started strong but Ipswich have gone up a gear and the Cherries aren't coping right now.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:23

Goal Conor Mark Chaplin

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:22

BURGESS GOES CLOSE! Hutchinson against Kerkez is an exciting battle, on this occasion Hutchinson comes out on top delivering a looping ball into the box for Burgess to nod towards goal. It was well-guided but nestled on top of the net.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:19

That is a relieved Huijsen. The defender sliced a cross and it flew out for a corner. There are too many stories of defenders smashing those into their own net before. Santiago Vergini springs to mind for Sunderland against Southampton. Sorry, Santiago!

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:18

Yellow Card Samuel Joseph Szmodics

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:14

Yellow Card Liam Rory Delap

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:11

WOW! Kerkez fizzed a ball across the face of goal and it was just out of reach for Tavernier to touch it home. Again Kluivert and Semenyo are playing some great switches to one another. It is like a strange game of piggy in the middle between them at times, just with 20 other players instead of one.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:09

Been a lively start here, but that should be expected with these two teams. They want to be aggressive and bring the game to the opponents. A couple of lovely touches from Hutchinson and Kluivert for both sides as well. It is set up to be an exciting game.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:05

Johnson does really well on his right-hand flank, flicking the ball over a couple of Bournemouth defenders and winning a corner. It is a chance to test Kepa early on here.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:02

We are underway here at Portman Road.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

14:01

The teams are out here!

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

13:58

Why change a winning team? That is the mindset of Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, who has only made one change for this game. Cook comes in for Adams, but the personal change won't affect the style all too much, with Cook able to add more control will on the ball. Tavernier and Kluivert have blossomed this season, with Evanilson also showing why the Cherries splashed a record fee for him from Porto.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

13:53

Despite the promising performance against Palace during the week, McKenna has made five changes to his squad. Szmodics has come into the starting 11, and he is another one of the players who has shone this season. He was incredible last season in the Championship with Blackburn, and in Szomodics, Hutchinson and Delap they have the fire power to cause teams problems.

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

13:43

Bournemouth on the other hand are getting performances and results, even against the very best in the league. Their win against Tottenham on Thursday, which seemed to spiral Spurs into chaos, can now join the list of memorable victories this season, which includes Manchester City and Arsenal. If they win here they can hoist themselves up to seventh in the league, and they have done it in a way that sees them play exhilarating stuff. It is tiring just watching them sometimes!

Ipswich Town vs AFC Bournemouth

13:38

Ipswich are struggling with results but not performances at times. Kieran McKenna's men have always been close in games but haven't been able to make the most of positive spells, which has resulted in them dropping points. They have shown they have players who can shine at this level, the likes of Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson are two that spring to mind, but if they are to stay in the top division, they need to be more ruthless. Their game against Crystal Palace, where they lost 1-0 highlighted that midweek.
