Ipswich Town striker George Hirst has received international clearance to switch his allegiance from England to Scotland and will immediately join Steve Clarke’s squad ahead of their crucial UEFA Nations League play-off clashes against Greece.
Hirst, 26, has previously represented England at youth level but qualifies for Scotland through family heritage.
The Scottish FA confirmed the news on Sunday evening, paving the way for Hirst to be available for selection as Scotland aim to retain their place section A of the Nations League.
His addition adds further firepower to Clarke’s attacking options, with the Ipswich man scoring in his side’s 4-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League on Saturday.
Expressing his delight at being provided the opportunity to wear the Scotland jersey, Hirst wrote on X: “Cant wait to meet up with the boys.”
