People who have older iPhone models may not be able to use them following Apple's latest IOS update.
IOS 16 is set to add different fonts, photo filters and interactive notifications to the best-selling devices.
Apple has been criticised in the past for 'planned obsolescence', wherein devices are designed to degrade over time so that customers buy new models.
Currently, iOS 15 works with all Apple phones from the iPhone 6s and onwards, the Irish Mirror reports.
The latest update is expected to be made publicly available later this year, however some may be disappointed to find that it will work with fewer phones than initially predicted.
With iPhones so important to the world's economy and everyday lives of people, some will be wondering if their old phone will soon become obsolete, while some will be marked as vintage.
iOS16 will not be compatible with the following iPhones:
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone SE (1st generation)
If you own any of these phones, you won't be able to use them with iOS16 - or use any of its features.
Reports suggest iOS16 will include a new style lock screen with some design cues from the Portrait Watch Face on the Apple Watch, whilst also allowing widgets to be made visible on the lock screen itself.
Apple said: "Apple discontinues hardware service for certain technologically obsolete products. Your device is supported by ongoing OS updates and backed by a network of more than 5,000 Apple-certified repair locations that you can count on if something unexpected happens."
