iPhone users complain new Apple update has made their battery worse

iPhone users have headed online to vent about Apple's latest update, which many claim has ruined their battery after installing. Over the last several days, Twitter has been swamped with messages from angry users about the iOS 16.4.1(a) update causing their battery to run out much faster than usual.

One user, HostileGalaxy, tweeted: "Bro this last IOS update is actually BLEEDING my battery. I’ve lost 30% in the last 30 minutes just by having Spotify on and looking at Twitter for 5 minutes. I might have to actually move on from the iPhone 6 after all this time."

Another, Rosegoldsof added: "After latest ios update, my battery drains faster," while Libraryhuntress echoed: "The new ios update sucks because my battery goes down the drain in an instant."

Ghana2NYC fumed: "That iOS 16.4.1(a) security update they dropped earlier this week f****d my battery up lmaooo." Jollywandering tagged Apple in a tweet, saying: "@AppleSupport The last iOS update on my phone is absolutely draining my battery now."

A response from Apple Support read: "You’ve come to the right place for help. DM us to let us know which iPhone and exact iOS version you’re using (Settings > General > About). This will help us determine a starting point."

The new update, also called a Rapid Security Response update, was rolled out by Apple last week in a bid to repair some security issues. A description of the update on the official Apple website reads: "Rapid Security Responses are a new type of software release for iPhone, iPad and Mac.

"They deliver important security improvements between software updates – for example, improvements to the Safari web browser, the WebKit framework stack or other critical system libraries. They may also be used to mitigate some security issues more quickly, such as issues that may have been exploited or reported to exist."

Besides battery drain, some other iPhone users have taken to Twitter to point out how their phone has been overheating since the Apple update. Gh_hmodi asked Apple Support: "Since the release of ios 16.0.1 and until the last update ios 16.4.1 , there is severe battery drain and device heating.

"Although you know about this matter, but you did not solve this problem This problem must be resolved." Hfsalmeida added: "My iPhone 13 mini feels like overheating after the update."

On its website, Apple lists a number of ways users can maximise battery life, these include:

  • Dim the screen or turn on Auto-Brightness to extend battery life.
  • Connect to Wi-Fi when possible, a Wi‑Fi connection uses less power than a mobile network
  • Enable low power mode
  • Plug in and power on your computer to charge your device

  • Remove certain cases during charging

  • Avoid extreme ambient temperatures

Apple has been approached for comment.
