Tablets have undergone something of a rebirth during the past few months, with people using them to video call parents, or set kids up with home-schooling. And when it comes to tablets, Apple produces some of the best.
As part of its September product launch, the tech giant has designed to give its iPad Air range a transformation, updating the design and specs of the model to bring it more in like with the likes of the iPad Pro.

iPad Air 2020: design
The colours of the new iPad Air are a throwback to the old iPod colours: rose gold, green, blue, grey and silver. Each iPad will come in 100 per cent recycled aluminium.
The new iPad Air has a square design, with a new top button to facilitate TouchID at the top for secure authentication. Apple says this is the smallest authentication sensor its ever designed and it can be used for Apple Pay.
Screen-wise, there’s a 10.4-inch liquid retina display with an anti-reflective coating.
iPad Air 2020: specs and features
There’s a new chip in the iPad Air 2020 to improve the performance of the tablet. The A14 bionic processor is probably what we’ll be seeing in the new iPhone range but for now, we’re getting a look at how it will work in the iPad Air.
It is a 5nm processor, so it’s really tiny, but promises to be powerful, along with increased performance and increased power efficiency. It also improves the neural engine so the iPad Air is better at AI operations. Siri should be faster than ever.
Like the iPad Pro, Apple is ditching the lightning cable in favour of USB-C. There’s also the same rear camera as the iPad Pro, a 12MP camera which should produce sharp photos and shoot 4K video.
On the front, you’ll find a 7MP FaceTime HD camera for high-quality video calls
In addition, the new iPad Air will work with Apple Pencil and the Apple Magic Keyboard.
iPad Air 2020: UK price and release date
The new iPad Air 2020 will be available to buy from £579 for the wi-fi version, going up to £709 for the wi-fi and cellular model, and will be available to buy from Apple.com from next month.
