Two Iowa parents are facing serious charges after authorities discovered their four-year-old son with developmental disabilities alone and covered in filth outside a home in Hamburg, Iowa. Dustin Carl Lee Perry and Lindsey Barbara Marie Hamilton, both 26, have been charged with neglect or abandonment of a dependent and child endangerment.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies found the child outside the home in deplorable conditions, with a mixture of human and animal feces. Another child was found inside the property, and both children were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
It was revealed that Perry and Hamilton had left their children with relatives, instructing them to keep the four-year-old in a makeshift cage. Deputies discovered the cage made out of a pack and play, a baby gate roof, and zip ties inside the home. Despite being confined, the child managed to escape the cage and leave the house undetected.
Authorities also found a second homemade cage in the parents' residence in Shenandoah, where the child was allegedly kept in a walk-in closet. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services intervened and removed several children from the home in Hamburg.
Perry and Hamilton were arrested and booked into the Fremont County Jail without bond. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues into this disturbing case of child neglect and endangerment.
