Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz has become something of an object of fascination for college football fans across the country this year.
Before the season, the Hawkeyes added a clause to Ferentz’s contract requiring IOwa to average at least 25 points per game in 2023. The Hawkeyes fell well short of that mark, averaging 18 points per game, ranking 124th out of 130 FBS teams. As a result, Ferentz—son of head coach Kirk Ferentz—was dismissed effective at the end of the season.
One would think that the Big Ten championship against Michigan would provide an opportunity for the departing offensive coordinator to leave it all on the floor. He did, but not in a positive way.
With 9:14 left in the third quarter of a game Iowa trailed, 10–0, quarterback Deacon Hill fumbled away the ball to Wolverines defensive back Josh Wallace under controversial circumstances. So livid was Brian Ferentz that he erupted at the officials, drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct foul even as his father attempted to hold him back.

Reporters in Indianapolis indicated Ferentz broke his headset during the tirade, further handicapping the Hawkeyes' already anemic attack.
