Apple is poised to roll out iOS 18.3, and it’s bringing some big changes for iPhone users, especially if you’ve got one of the latest models.

But, before you get too excited over the prospect of shiny new features, there’s a bit of a surprise. Instead of adding an extra AI perk, iPhone owners are about to lose one. Specifically, if you've got an iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max or iPhone 16, you’ll see a change to Apple Intelligence.

Don’t worry though; we’ve got the lowdown on everything you need to know about iOS 18.3, from its expected release date to the new features coming your way.

iOS 18.3 release date: When is the iPhone update coming out?

Apple has hinted that its next update is just around the corner, with several beta releases already out, including the latest one on January 16.

If it sticks to its usual schedule, we could see another beta or the release candidate (the near-final build) between January 20 and 27. This should be followed closely by the public rollout in late January or early February.

Apple Intelligence is currently limited to select iPhone models, including the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and the iPhone 16 (Apple)

However, nothing's set in stone just yet – release dates and features can always shift as we get closer to the final version.

iOS 18.3 features - the big change to Apple Intelligence and more

So, what’s changing? In the latest iOS 18.3 beta, Apple has paused its AI-driven news summary feature. The move comes after several publishers flagged issues with how the tool worded push notifications.

Concerns were raised by Reporters Without Borders, who warned the summaries could harm public trust in news and mislead users. One particularly shocking example was the erroneous AI-generated headline that murder suspect Luigi Mangione had shot himself.

For now, summaries in the ‌Apple Intelligence‌ feature are still available but appear in italics to set them apart from regular notifications. Apple has confirmed that news and entertainment summaries will be temporarily unavailable while it works on improvements, with a return planned for a future update.

Apple has said it will update its artificial intelligence tools after the BBC complained about inaccurate summaries of its headlines being pushed to users using the technology on its newest iPhones (Yui Mok/PA) (PA Wire)

As spotted by MacRumors, other changes to Apple Intelligence notifications in iOS 18.3 include:
