Invincible season 3 has been highly praised in the majority of reviews currently circulating. At the time of writing, the new season has an impressive 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes with critics and a 93% audience score. Fans even described the finale as one of animated TV's best-ever episodes. High praise, indeed.

We also loved the new season and highly recommend it to long-time fans of the series. In our Invincible season 3 review, we gave the show an almost perfect score, calling it: "bigger, better, faster, stronger" than season 2.

Invincible season 3 covered several major comic arcs, including Invincible War and Conquest, taking the series to around issue 65 of its adaptation.

The third season began with Mark in training for the imminent Viltrumite threat, though he quickly fell out with Cecil and the GDA over plans to bring villains and disgraced heroes into the crimefighting mix.

Cecil soon turns on Mark, who leaves the orbit of the Guardians and (complete with a new blue suit) goes to train his half-brother Oliver, who has dubbed himself Kid Omni-Man.

"He's in a different headspace and that gets reflected in his costume," Robert Kirkman told Variety. "Anyone who has read the series knows the blue suit era is the darkest and the most intense, and there's a lot of really big things that are around the blue suit."

In one moment, Oliver kills the Mauler Twins, showcasing his extreme potential.

By the midway point of the season, Mark is flung into the future and discovers that the world is ruled by Immortal, who Mark is forced to kill.

Eve and Mark, now officially an item, then set up Invincible Inc. to make Invincible a superhero-for-hire. One of his first jobs involves guarding a superhero villain, which kicks off a domino effect that leads to Machine Head taking his place at the head of a criminal organization called the Order.

The final third of the season sees Mark facing more personal threats, including Powerplex - a villain who feels wronged by Invincible after the death of two family members during Mark's showdown with his father in Chicago.

The penultimate episode sees Angstrom Levy return with an army of Invincibles from various dimensions. His plans are thwarted, however, and he is forced to return back to his hideout and is currently at the mercy of his former workers, the technicians.

Mark can barely stop for breath when he is confronted by the Viltrumite warrior Conquest. After a brutal, bloody battle which sees Eve unleash new powers of sentient matter manipulation that end up saving her own live, Mark seemingly kills Conquest.

However, it is later revealed that Cecil and the GDA are keeping him held prisoner so they can unlock the secrets of defeating the Viltrumite Empire.

Invincible season 3 trailer

The first Invincible season 3 teaser trailer is an original animation featuring Mark Grayson and Cecil sharing a terse conversation at a Burger Mart.

"What exactly have you been doing to prepare?" Cecil tells Mark in reference to a moment in Invincible season 2 that saw the hero – to put it bluntly – get his ass kicked by Viltrumite Anissa (Shantel VanSanten).

While it's light on other story teases, Cecil does make a wry joke about the show's mid-season break in season 2. Mark replies by saying he's been busy writing, designing, storyboarding, and voice acting. The headline: the Invincible staff have been hard at work.

The trailer ends with Cecil making his own list – of Mark's new training regime.

Invincible season 3 cast

The Invincible season 3 cast includes most of the major players from the first two seasons. That includes Invincible himself, Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun). Additionally, the following returns: Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs), Debbie (Sandra Oh), Nolan/Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons), Cecil (Walton Goggins), and Amber (Zazie Beetz).

Other members of the Guardians of the Globe – including Ross Marquand's The Immortal – should also factor into the new season, as will Anissa (Shantel VanSanten) and Shapesmith (Ben Schwartz).

In January 2025, Invincible also confirmed a whole bunch of new actors and characters too. Prime Video announced that Aaron Paul will play Powerplex, Simu Liu will be Multi-Paul, Kate Mara will be Becky Duvall, Xolo Mariduena will be super-twins Fightmaster and Dropkick, John DiMaggio will play The Elephant, Tzi Ma will be Mr. Liu, and Christian Convery is Oliver Grayson.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan also joined the cast as the Viltrumite villain Conquest.
