The entrepreneur behind plans to create a Beatles themed hotel in Cavern Walks has said he can bring back the 'Merseybeat boom' to Mathew Street.
Craig Greenwood, 34, heads up Greenwood Developments, which acquired Cavern Walks in a joint venture with JSM Company Group in October. He started out with refrigeration engineering firm Everkool before moving into property investment.
It is hoped some of Cavern Walks' retail units will be retained to create an alternative indoor market, similar to Quiggins , while office space on the upper floors will become a hotel. As well as Beatles themed bedrooms, the venue will also include a cinema room, function room and a bar .

Work has now started on the hotel and although Craig is expecting a phased opening, rooms could be available in the summer of 2023, coinciding with the arrival of Eurovision to Liverpool .
Craig said: " Mathew Street still attracts visitors from all over the world. It is synonymous with The Beatles and the Merseybeat era and that's something we're aiming to bring back."
As well as paying homage to The Beatles , the hotel will also include tributes to other famous musicians and bands from the 1960s.
Craig added: "The Cavern Walks hotel will breathe new life into Mathew Street and has the potential to bring a Merseybeat style boom back to the area. Mathew Street was the beating heart of the city in its 1960s heyday and it can be again.
"This isn't just a hotel development, this will bring massive regeneration to the area and revitalise Mathew Street. People from the city and visitors alike will love it.
"The Cavern Walks Hotel will be a destination in its own right. It will be a symbol of a modern, thriving Liverpool but will pay homage to our incredible music and cultural history."
The Cavern Walks Hotel is expected to have a gross development value of £35m once complete.
