Investigations underway after car drives along O-Bahn track at Gilberton, Klemzig

The SA Public Transport Authority is reviewing its signage after yet another car managed to drive along a notorious busway in Adelaide on Monday.

SA Public Transport Authority executive director Scott White told ABC Radio Adelaide the Mercedes-Benz sedan entered the bus-only O-Bahn track at Park Terrace in Gilberton about 4:45pm on Monday, drove along the track, and exited 10 minutes later at Klemzig.

He says it was "pretty fortunate" the car made it off the tracks without assistance, with other incidents requiring cars to be removed.

"Whether by luck or good driving they managed to get through, which is unusual," he said.

The incident was captured on video and posted on social media.

Mr White said several buses experienced "minor disruptions" as a result.

He said despite widespread attention, cars driving onto the tracks was unusual.

Monday's incident was the second this year, and one of six since 2020.

"They're very rare, but obviously one is one too many," Mr White said.

In August, a crane was used to remove a car that had driven onto the O-Bahn at Paradise and had rolled at Hope Valley.

Mr White said there were plenty of signs warning drivers about the track.

"We've a lot of information in place, but we are however taking another review, making sure the signage is correct and looking to see if there's anything else we can do," he said.

"... Whilst these incidents do get a lot of attention from the public and from the media, the reality is we can't unfortunately build our infrastructure to guard against the very small number of motorists that are either deliberately ignoring the warnings or failing to pay attention to that extensive signage, so it is a difficult one."

SA Police said they were investigating the incident, but at this stage no charges or fines had been issued.
