A police investigation is underway following a 'serious assault' in south Manchester.
The incident happened on busy Wilmslow Road in Fallowfield at around 7.15pm last night (Sunday). A huge emergency services response raced to the scene including police vehicles, ambulances and incident response units.
Police said a man - aged in his 40s - was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital. In an update issued this morning (Monday), a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said the victim is now awaiting surgery.

The spokesperson added that no weapons were believed to have been used in the attack. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
Last night, one worried resident said that Fallowfield was 'becoming a scary place', as it was just in October that 19-year-old student Luke O'Connor died after being stabbed on the same street. The student said: "It's so worrying.
"I remember just the other week a boy was stabbed here and I walked home alone the night after and my housemates said I shouldn’t have. Fallowfield is becoming a scary place to be honest."
One Cawdor Road resident, who asked to remain nameless, said: "I would say I haven’t ever felt particularly unsafe in Fallowfield however, two major incidents in as many months suggests scenarios like these may not be anomalous and I’m sure that could be cause for concern for other residents."
In a statement issued last night, a spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 7.15pm this evening (18 December) police were called to a serious assault on Wilmslow Road, Manchester. Officers and the North West Ambulance Service attended and one man in his 40s has suffered serious injuries - he is currently receiving medical attention.
"No arrests have been made at this time. Enquiries are ongoing."
