Barabanki, Uttar Prdaesh: The district is gearing up for a sweeping investigation into Waqf properties following the tabling of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report in Parliament. With both central and state governments passing relevant bills, authorities are now set to scrutinize alleged encroachments and discrepancies in land records.
District-Wide Scrutiny Begins
According to Dynamite News sources, a high-level verification drive will be conducted across all tehsils. Police, Basic Education Officers (BSA), Revenue Department officials, and other concerned agencies have been directed to assist in the probe.
Preliminary investigations have uncovered staggering illegal occupation of Waqf lands, with encroachments spanning hundreds of hectares across the district. The breakdown reveals:
Nawabganj Tehsil: 76 disputed properties, totaling 9.167 hectares of contested land.

Ramnagar: Authorities have flagged 34 properties covering 5.157 hectares in alleged illegal possession.
Ramsanehighat: A shocking 285 properties (49.042 hectares) are under unauthorized government occupation.
Sirauli Gauspur: 11 properties (2.873 hectares) locked in legal disputes.
Haidergarh: 68 properties sprawled over 15.801 hectares marked as encroached.
Fatehpur: The worst-hit zone, with 338 properties (26.751 hectares) confirmed as unlawfully occupied.

The findings expose a systemic land grab crisis, with discrepancies between official records and ground realities fueling suspicions of collusion or negligence.
While government records list only 812 Waqf properties in the district, the Waqf Board claims the actual number is 5,011—including mazars, dargahs, graveyards, schools, markets, mosques, and Eidgahs.
Sunni Waqf Board: 4,863 properties.
Shia Waqf Board: 148 properties.
With encroachment disputes escalating, the administration has ordered fresh surveys. Departments must submit reports promptly, signaling a crackdown on illegal holdings. The move follows growing political and legal pressure to reclaim disputed assets.
