Investigation launched after major emergency incident on railway near Port Glasgow

AN investigation has been launched after a major emergency incident occurred on a section of railway in Port Glasgow where engineering works have been taking place.

A large number of police, fire brigade and ambulance staff were in attendance on and around the railway line near St John’s Primary School at Glenburn Street last night (March 15).

Inverclyde’s railway lines have been closed since Saturday to facilitate round-the-clock infrastructure work, which is set to last until Tuesday.

They said: “Emergency services responded to an incident on one of our engineering sites near Port Glasgow on Saturday evening.

“Staff affected by this incident will be fully supported through this difficult time.”
