A bar in Glasgow’s Merchant City is doing its bit to help out in the Ukraine-Russia conflict by hosting a special fundraising event on International Women’s Day.
The team at Amsterdam Cafe Bar on Brunswick Street have organised a night of pottery painting and drinks, with all profits from tickets sales going towards two women’s charities.
On March 8 the bar is partnering with female owned studio The Craft Pottery to hosts two pottery painting sessions at 4pm and 7pm.
All of the money raised through the evening will go to Glasgow Women’s Aid and Ubuntu Women’s Shelter, a charity dedicated to meeting the short term emergency accommodation needs of women, asylum seekers and refugees displaced by ongoing conflicts.

Laura Hughes, manager of The Amsterdam, said: “Ubuntu Women’s shelter helps all women, whether it’s refugees from around the globe , trans women, or sex workers - they provide a necessary service without prejudice or discrimination which is a value we stand behind.
"We think it’s incredibly important to take any opportunity to help out where we can. If everyone chips in a little it can add up to a whole lot, and any coverage of issues is super helpful to raise awareness - whether that’s the Ukrainian refugee crisis, or gender inequality across different cultures and avenues."
She added: "We believe that it’s so important to help where we can, and to keep the conversation front and centre."
Tickets are £20 and include a welcome drink and piece of pottery to paint and take home.
There will also be a fundraising raffle with various prizes donated by St Luke’s and various drinks brands.
Ticketholders are invited to stay until 9pm when the bar will reopen to the public and DJ RoseHips will take to the decks.
