International tourists slam Dublin Airport as 'shameful' with '70 passengers missing one flight'

Tourists have slammed Dublin Airport as "shameful" after being forced to "sleep on the floor without being offered survival blankets or even hot drinks".

Passengers who missed their flights due to the long queues this weekend have voiced their frustrations online.

Giving the airport the lowest rating possible, one visitor wrote: "70 passengers like my companion and I could not even make our flight because of the catastrophic organisation and the lack of staff at the airport.

"We had to sleep on the floor without being offered survival blankets or even hot drinks. A shame.

"To make a complaint, we are put in a queue and then in another. A lot of stress and anxiety was generated by this situation which prevented us from being with our families for Mother's Day.

"No supporting documentation offered for our work. I await the reimbursements promised by the competent authorities with great anticipation. Paying two plane tickets to be able to go home and come 6 hours earlier to hope to get your plane is a calamity."

Another passenger recounted their experience, saying "almost empty" planes were left with no choice but to take off without their passengers due to the delays.

He said: "Very unhappy and disappointed with the management of Dublin Airport.

"Arrival at 5:30 a.m., 7:55 a.m. flight to Bordeaux, leaving with 28 seats taken out of a possible 240, because we were queuing to go through security, 3 hour queue to finally be reset at the terminals because the plane had taken off. Nice spirit for the environment by the way, to take off almost empty planes.

"Waiting an additional 7 hours to reschedule a flight quickly, but the fastest is 2 days later and not to the same destinations.

"What about the additional costs incurred as a result? It's not just a simple new flight request to manage, but knowing how to sleep, eat while waiting, also counting all the transport costs that will have to be done! Because yes, our new flight takes us to Nantes and not to Bordeaux as initially planned.

"Train costs, parking supplement costs for our car, shuttle costs and so on. I am waiting for news from Dublin airport to get all these costs reimbursed!!!

"Because obviously, no one on the spot is able to answer us. And to say that this kind of day has already been experienced here in March, in April, and that these experiences have brought them nothing to correct all this management, it is shameful!"

Others were left with a bad taste in their mouth after Sunday's chaos as they branded Dublin Airport as the worst airport among European capitals.

They said: "Be prepared for 2hr+ standing-up queueing times for checking-in, not enough seating options which means literally sitting on the (dirty) floor if you need to sit, and very few food options. Worst airport among European capitals imho."

Another wrote: "A disgraceful excuse of an airport. To be avoided if possible."

While a third said: "I've heard worse stories than mine, but I'll still share. Not enough staff to get passengers through the line in a timely manner. Heard the horror stories on the radio of massive lines so arrived 4 hours early for an international flight to Dallas.

"Barely made it through the line for final call and many seats were empty on what was supposed to be a full plane. We were then delayed on the runway for over an hour. I'd imagine due to not enough staff, causing me to miss my connecting flight. Avoid this airport if you can."
