Top junior curling nations from around Europe will descend on Ayr Ice Rink tomorrow to take part in a much anticipated event.
Ayr Junior Curling Club is hosting The International Junior Curling Club Bonspiel and as many as 24 teams are gearing up to take part.
A spokesperson for the competition organisers said: “This event was initiated in Switzerland 20 years ago.
“We have 24 teams participating which include the following countries- Scotland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and England- with 10 of the teams from overseas.”
The tournament was due to be held in March 2020 but was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown at the time.
The opening ceremony will begin at 3.30pm tomorrow and the games will follow thereafter.
Play will continue right though until Sunday, when the winners will be crowned.
Ayr Junior committee would like to thank the major sponsors who without their help, the event would not have been able to go ahead.
The sponsors include: Lynch Homes, Frazer Coogans (solicitors), Dunbia Highland Meats, The Coo Shed, Auchrannie Resort (Arran).
The spokesperson added: “We also received donations from many of the local curling clubs and other local businesses such as Ayr Rotary Club, Ayrshire College, Scotprint, Reids food services, Stevenson Polishing and Upholstery, Mundell Landscapes and RH Goldie.
“The event was initially organised to be played in March 2020, but unfortunately due to covid, it was cancelled just before the event took place.
“This makes this year’s competition even more special and we are very privileged to hold this amazing bonspiel once again at Ayr.
“It allows many of our junior curlers the unique experience of playing against varied nationalities, competing and socialising with the opposition on and off the ice in the true spirit of the curling game.”
Members of the public are invited to come down tomorrow and see the curling stars of the future.
