Interior designer shares three items to get rid of to instantly declutter your home

As we begin a brand new year, it's a great time to have a good 'new me' clear-out, allowing for a fresher feeling and a more positive outlook going forward.

However, sifting through stuffed drawers and overflowing cupboards can sometimes feel more like an impossible task than an act of self-care, and this is before daring to tackle the wardrobe.

Many of us will have decade-old shoes we're convinced we'll wear again, while others can't quite say goodbye to their favourite chipped mug.

With this in mind, an interior designer has revealed three things that people should chuck out in order to instantly declutter their house, making the whole process feel a little bit less daunting.

Taking to TikTok, Lindsey, of Everyday Grace Designs, revealed: "Three things you can remove from your home today... Less stuff = less time cleaning".

Kicking of the vid, which has clocked up over 316k views at the time of writing, Lindsey, advised getting rid of "Tupperware with no lid", a sin which far many of us with clogged up kitchens are guilty of.

With her next handy tip, Lindsey advised her 22.6K followers to have a good sort through their towel collection, getting rid of any which are frayed or that you "hate".

However, as all dog owners undoubtedly know, you do of course need to have one particularly grim towel hidden away at all times for any muddy puddle related disasters.

Thirdly, Lindsey suggests ditching any instruction manuals you might have lying around the house, reminding people that "everything can be found online" nowadays.

Many commentators have thanked Lindsey for sharing her wisdom, with one person claiming to have already tossed out "six kitchen size trash bags from my pantry".

When considering what could be done with such items, one kindhearted follower suggested that old towels could be donated to a local animal shelter alongside any unwanted blankets and sheets.

However, not everyone was too keen on the idea of binning instruction manuals, with one follower advising "the product might be discontinued and you might need them. Put manuals in a binder".

If you're finding it hard to let go of household objects, you're not alone. According to a 2020 Spaceslide survey of 2,000 people, 50% of Brits were found to struggle with organising their wardrobes on account of sentimental attachment.
