Finally, it's that time of the year when you can throw open your windows, soak up some sun and let some fresh air in - Yes, spring is here and perfect weather behoves a perfect home.
The vernal season doesn't just call out for a spring clean but also offers the perfect reason to bring some freshness into your home. And., to help you liven up your interiors, and harness those positive spring vibes at home, Amy Wilson, Interior Designer for 247 Curtains and Lucy Ackroyd, Head of Design at Christy, have collated their top interior trends for spring 2022.
1. Colour clash
This season is all about bigger and bolder colours - think Peaky Blinders and Bridgerton. Where we once needed calming, soothing tones to provide us comfort at home, we are now ready to be braver - with splashes of colour appearing in everything from new paint choices to accessories like curtains and cushions.
“Don’t be afraid to play around with contrasting colours! Just be sure to keep the tones the same and the patterns limited," advises Amy.
“Start with changing or recovering the cushions on your sofa and then consider a bold print in your window frame by painting out your window recess in a bright coordinating colour, picked out of the fabric.”
Lucy agrees: “With spring being the season of new beginnings, integrating bolder tones in your interiors might just be what you need to embrace this! Choose a fiery red bedding or an ochre yellow throw to add a dramatic and chic touch to your home.”
Explaining colour clash by giving the example of Bridgerton and the show’s moody colour palette, Aaron Markwell, Colour Guru, COAT Paints shares: “Colour clashing provides a sense of escapism. In one of the Bridgerton boudoirs, we see panelled walls in a combination of candy pink and a supersaturated duck green.
“This combination of pastel and vibrant colours creates a sense of whimsy. You can create this sense of opulence and otherworldliness in your interior, and the key to this is picking clashing colours that have a similar undertone.”
2. Pattern
Patterns for the SS22 are trending much like colour - strong, bold and striking. Stripes are a bold and timeless option for window and floor coverings and are easily incorporated into existing room designs.
Lucy suggests: “Elevate your interiors with patterns by adding depth and bringing that element of surprise in an otherwise ordinary-looking space.
“Patterned accessories such as botanical-inspired bedding or delicate flower pattern wallpaper can bring character into your home and fit in with the surrounding environment.”
3. Green
With famously unpredictable weather like ours, bringing some greenery inside can create a sense of warmth and comfort.
“This season, green is trending in all its forms. Pot plants on a shelf, in a window or pop one onto a coffee table along with your usual scented candle and stack of interior magazines, for some interior faffing,” shares Amy.
Lucy claims: “Nature-inspired interiors are one of the hottest trends for interiors in 2022. Green is easy to integrate into your home as its softer tones, like sage or deep forest, recall a sense of tranquillity and can bring a modern zen-inspired twist to your interiors.”
4. Curves
Soft, cocooning, gentle waves and swooping curves are dominating soft furnishings as well as interior architecture right now and the trend is being embraced by the high street too. “Expect cushions with trims, ric-rac wave paint as borders and curved armchairs that feel like a hug,” shares Amy.
5. Self-care sanctuary
The pandemic brought a significant shift to our homes and our lifestyle. While our homes had to adapt and become multifunctional, our lifestyle became hybrid and self-care took a backseat. But now, it’s time to start thinking about moving the desk back out of the bedroom and reclaiming this space as the calming environment it should be.
Amy says: “In the bedroom – lighting is key to ensuring a good night's sleep, the ultimate act of self-care. Blackout blinds, combined with soft bedside lamps and some beautiful blankets layered up on the bed will help ease you gently into sleep as well as give your bedroom a stylish hotel-inspired look.”
Lucy adds: “To recreate that spa-like experience in your bathroom, focus on calming colour hues to set the right mood. Tones such as navy blue, brushed grey and a Sorrento pink for your bedding are timeless and elegant touches that can promote peacefulness in an intimate environment like the bedroom.”
