Interesting comments from Mike McDaniel, Chris Grier at NFL combine

Wednesday morning in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine was time for media interviews. Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier spoke to reporters and discussed several areas which were documented on social media.

Of course, the quarterback position was a topic as well, and Grier made things rather point-blank on Tua Tagovailoa, as he has a fifth-year team option Miami must decide on prior to May 1.

Even when the topic of durability came up, Grier said, “I can’t lie and say no. But it’s not something that’s going to make us afraid to do something long-term.”

Yesterday, head coach McDaniel said of the topic, “like any other player you factor in every variable.” He did say, “I think it’s important to recognize that we have a congruence of interest by the Dolphins and the player, Tua, that we both want, both parties really want him to play at a very high level for the Miami Dolphins.”

Back to Grier, he mentioned that the team would be open to bringing back both running backs, Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson, Jr. while also exploring drafting one as well if there is a player that catches McDaniel’s interest.

Grier also provided some injury clarity on players like Emmanuel Ogbah and Brandon Jones, as well as Nik Needham who is a restricted free agent. Needham is likely to be back, as there is a mutual interest, and as Grier stated, each of these there situations and recoveries remains, “fluid.”

As for Byron Jones, Grier said “a lot of moving parts” as to whether he will be back with the team in 2023.

On the flip side, but staying on the defensive side of the ball, Grier told reporters that when it comes to defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, “we would like to have him here for a long time.”

Much to Dolphins fans’ delight, Grier also teased some defensive positions they are looking to add depth to, and those happen to be in line with veterans Jordan Poyer at safety, and inside linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Here are some of the reporters’ Tweets from Tuesday and Wednesday morning who were in Indianapolis, capturing the coverage as well as throughout Dolphins’ Twitter.
