Interactive video game exhibition to open at Science Museum this summer

Attention gamers: a video game exhibition is coming to the Science Museum this summer.

Power Up, which has run for five seasons, will permanently return to the west London museum on Saturday, July 27.

The interactive gaming zone will feature more than 160 consoles and hundreds of video games, and presents the science and history of major gaming developments.

Visitors will embark on a gaming journey spanning five decades, with games from Pong to Mario Kart on offer.

Head back in time and play a game on the Atari 2600. Or, make the most of this opportunity to get your hands on a PS5.

Power Up opened around Easter last year, and was extended into early June due to its popularity.

Alastair Otto, Associate Commercial Director at the Science Museum Group, said at the time: “Bringing together iconic games from the last 50 years, Power Up offers our visitors the chance to discover the revolutionary advancements in technology and developments in storytelling that have shaped an industry and influenced wider popular culture.”

He added: “Video games are a captivating combination of storytelling, technological advancement and thrill-seeking; this interactive experience offers visitors of all ages an opportunity to discover the possibilities of gaming technology, the evolution of game design but most importantly have fun.”

After running for limited seasons, Power Up will be returning to the Science Museum permanently.

Also opening at the science museum this summer is Engineers, a gallery dedicated to engineering innovations and the UK’s engineering heritage.

Furthermore, the Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination, has also been extended to August 20. This explores how scientists and science fiction creators have inspired each other.

Booking for Power Up is open now. Tickets cost £10 and an annual pass is £15.

A Gaming Late event will take place on the evening of July 27, for people aged 18 and over. Tickets cost £12.
