Interactive: Trust in the police around the world

Ipsos's annual Global Trustworthiness Index study asks people which professions and sectors they generally trust In 2022, police in just four countries were trusted by a majority of people.

Trust in police forces has fallen since the pandemic in many of the countries surveyed by Ipsos. A few, like Spain and India, have seen trust improve.

Trust in police also varies enormously compared to that of other professions.

In some countries, like Mexico and South Africa, police are near the bottom of the pack, trusted more only than politicans and government ministers. In others, they are much more highly rated—although few countries would rate them as highly as doctors, scientists and teachers.
