Inter Milan vs Liverpool prediction and odds: Diogo Jota tipped to score in front of San Siro crowd

The Champions League returns and Liverpool have the trip to the San Siro against an Inter Milan side who have reached the knockout stages of Europe's top club competition in 10 years.

The Reds are the favourites at evens with Grosvenor Sport while Inter are 13/5 to take the lead in the first leg and a draw is 13/5 too.

Jurgen Klopp's European form is phenomenal with his side winning every single match in the group stage which included Inter's arch-rivals AC Milan, La Liga side Atletico Madrid and Portuguese giants Porto.

They cruised through the group stage scoring an impressive 17 goals in that time while Inter Milan suffered a different group stage campaign.

The Nerazzuri had to contend with Sheriff Tiraspol who picked up a shock win against Real Madrid as well as Shakhtar Donetsk - winning just half their matches in the process.

Simone Inzaghi's side missed out on the chance to go top in Serie A and with just two wins in their last five league matches, he will be looking for his side's fortunes to turn around quickly.

Team stats

  • Both teams in matches involving Inter scored in 18 from 33 matches in all competitions while for Liverpool it is 17 from 37 but four times in six in the Champions League so far - both teams to score is 11/20
  • Inter have finished 19 matches with three or more total goals while for Liverpool it is 24 - over 2.5 goals is 13/20
  • Inter average 9.54 total corners and 9 at home while Liverpool average 10.63 total corners and 10.15 away - over 9.5 total corners is 21/20

Players to watch

The choice is between Diogo Jota or Mo Salah.

Diogo Jota has already picked up 17 goals this season in all competitions including a brace against Leicester City earlier this month and helped ease past Cardiff Cit in the FA Cup too.

Meanwhile, Salah will be motivated by his African Cup of Nations defeat and working towards his second Champions League winners medal might be the perfect distraction from the heartache in this month's AFCON final.

H2H

This will only be the fifth meeting between these two European giants with Liverpool picking up three wins and one defeat.

The Reds have faced Serie A opponents 35 times winning 16, drawing five and losing 15.
