Inter Milan's stance on Christian Eriksen transfer amid talk of Tottenham return

Inter Milan are willing to let Christian Eriksen leave this month as talk continues over a potential return to Tottenham.

Eriksen has struggled since making the move to Italy in January of last year for around £17million amid his expiring Spurs contract and his refusal to pen a new deal.

The Dane has made 39 appearances since joining Inter and he is yet to register a goal or assist for the Italian giants this season in 14 appearances across all competitions.

Amid his struggles, Eriksen has been placed on the transfer list with Inter reportedly only wanting to reclaim the transfer fee they paid for him around 12 months ago.

But fresh reports have linked Eriksen with a loan departure and Tottenham are one of several clubs to have been linked as they look to correct their disappointing run of form and take steps back towards the top of the table.

Eriksen impressed during his seven years at Spurs and the club were reluctant to lose him, but having failed to tie him down to a new deal, they made the decision to sell the midfielder to make sure he wasn't going to leave on a free.

A return is now on the cards, according to Sky Sports, who claim Spurs are considering taking Eriksen back on loan with Inter open to the idea.

The problem is, however, that Inter are said to want a sizeable loan fee and their demands are said to have already put other clubs off.

It will be interesting to see whether that is the case for Tottenham, who are yet to begin talks over a potential deal with more than half of the transfer window already gone.

As far as Inter are concerned, they are said to be happy for Eriksen to leave on loan because they believe he could increase his transfer value with some good form elsewhere.

As things stand, the Italian club could make next-to-nothing on the midfielder given his poor form with manager Antonio Conte claiming he needs to show 'more character'.

Inter chief Giuseppe Marotta said: "Conte has already spoken about it thoroughly. I can just add that we do not certainly have to force a player to stay when he asks to leave.

"We will have to evaluate the situation. Now he is available for Conte, who has been making him play in [Eriksen's] respect and in the club's respect.

"Up to now, we have not received any request from Eriksen, but at the right time we will try to find the right combinations."

Eriksen has a long contract at Inter, tied down until 2024 as things stand.
