Inter Milan are preparing for life without Manchester United-bound Andre Onana as they eye two new goalkeepers.
The Red Devils are looking for a new No 1 after the departure of David de Gea and have long been linked with Inter's first choice. Erik ten Hag knows the goalkeeper well following their successful time together at Ajax and Onana is keen on reuniting with his former boss.
United are yet to meet Inter's £52m valuation of the Cameroonian but productive talks between the two clubs have been held and there is an expectation that the move will eventually get done. As a result the Italian side have identified replacements, according to The Times.
Inter are in discussions with two goalkeepers including Yann Sommer, who is currently at Bayern Munich. They are hoping to land his signature for £3.4m whilst Shakhtar Donetsk’s Anatoliy Trubin is also on their radar as they look to complete a deal for around £10m.
Onana played a key role for the Champions League finalists but Inter have shown themselves willing to part with their best players at the right price. United are therefore likely to get their man should they pay his valuation, but will want a slight reduction as they work with a limited budget.
De Gea's departure had long been discussed with his contract winding down. There was always an acceptance that the Spaniard would have to take a pay cut, but issues around United offering him a deal eventually led to his departure, which was announced recently.
He said on social media: “I took incredible pride every time I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestowed upon a few lucky footballers. It’s been an unforgettable and successful period since I came here.
“I didn’t think from leaving Madrid as a young boy we would achieve what we did together. Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings. Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me.”
Onana will go straight in as United's No 1 should a deal get confirmed. Ten Hag has Tom Heaton on the books at Old Trafford but he is very much a back-up and on Everton's radar, with United needing an elite goalkeeper is they are to push on with their ambitions.
