Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi still has Liverpool on his mind as he prepares to face Manchester ity in the Champions League final.
The Italian club reached the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in a decade last season but came unstuck against Jurgen Klopp’s side, falling to a 3-0 defeat on aggregate. It has been a period of progression for Inter since 2019, having reached the Europa League final, claimed the Serie A title and won a domestic cup double ahead of this season.
While City were busy lifting the FA Cup, Inter signed off the Serie A season with a 1-0 win over Torino to ensure third place and another season of Champions League football. However, Inzaghi has not forgotten how he felt after his team’s European exit to Liverpool last term and wants to see progression as he aims to cause an upset in Istanbul/

“Our journey in the cup competitions has been perfect, that’s clear,” Inzaghi said. “What I said last year comes to mind, because I would’ve liked to replay the (round of) 16 against Liverpool because in my opinion, the team could have done better last season.
“Saturday’s match will be our 57th of the season, and the most important. We head to Istanbul with a few defeats behind us which maybe hurt us at the moment, but which made us grow and improve."
Inter came through their final league match unscathed and Inzaghi is hoping to have a full bill of health as the club prepare to face Pep Guardiola’s men. He is aware of the daunting task in front of them as City continue their quest for a Treble and the elusive Champions League trophy.
“We'll need to suffer together and play football well, because we have to take possession off of them. We have to attack with balance,” he added. “We'll prepare for it this week. We hope to have everyone back fit and available. There's hope, and then Saturday will be a massive match that we're all looking forward to."
