Inter Miami CF Head Coach Provides Injury Updates And Roster Insights

Inter Miami's Lionel Messi, sixth from left, looks on from the bench during the friendly football match between Hong Kong Team and US Inter Miami CF at the Hong Kong Stadium in Hong Kong, Sunday, Feb.

Inter Miami CF head coach Gerardo Martino confirmed that Jordi Alba will be sidelined for the upcoming match against CF Montréal due to injury concerns. Alba has been out of action since sustaining a right-leg injury in a previous game against Sporting Kansas City on April 13. Despite returning to training, Martino emphasized the need to proceed with caution before reintroducing Alba to competitive play.

In addition to Alba's absence, Inter Miami is grappling with several other injury setbacks, with players like Facundo Farías, Ian Fray, Diego Gómez, Federico Redondo, and Robbie Robinson currently unavailable for selection due to various medical issues. This has left the team with limited options on the bench.

Martino also addressed ongoing transfer rumors, particularly those linking the club to high-profile players like Ángel Di María. He clarified that while he acknowledges the quality such players would bring, the current MLS roster regulations pose challenges to making significant signings. Martino highlighted the need for specific circumstances to align for Inter Miami to pursue players of Di María's caliber.

Looking ahead, Inter Miami faces a packed schedule, with matches against Montreal, Orlando, and D.C. United lined up in quick succession. Martino indicated that team selection for the upcoming games will be contingent on the outcome of the Montreal fixture and the physical condition of the players post-match.

Despite the injury concerns and transfer speculations, Inter Miami sits atop the Eastern Conference standings with 24 points from 12 games, boasting a record of 7 wins, 2 losses, and 3 draws. Martino emphasized the team's focus on the ongoing tournament, player recoveries, and accumulating points as they navigate a busy period in the season.
