Intense thunderstorms and spot flooding to interrupt 28C forecast for Ireland next week

Ireland is set to scorch in 28C weather next week, however some intense thunderstorms and spot flooding will interrupt the return to high pressure.

A weather alert has warned that intense thunderstorms are on their way along with warm and humid conditions.

The warning states: "Next week could well be hotter than this week with a risk of thunderstorms!"

Warm air is forecast on the evening ECMWF model to push up over Ireland next week.

Weather expert Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather stated: "The warm and humid air is moving in now and much warmer tonight with temperatures not dropping below 17c in some parts. Welcome to the sticky muggy weather."

Temperatures of 28 degrees are forecast for next week, with overnight temperatures sticking in the mid teens.

Met Éireann has said this Friday will be warm and humid with some scattered showers across Munster and parts of Connaught, with temperatures ranging between 21C and 25C.

For Saturday they said it will be warm and humid with scattered showers in the south in the morning, which will gradually extend into other parts of the country, some turning heavy with the chance of "isolated thunderstorms and spot flooding."

Sunday will bring some local thundery showers too, despite temperatures remaining up to 25C.

For Monday and Tuesday, Met Éireann added: "Warmer or even hot days with sunshine and scattered slow moving showers - potential for heavy and thundery one with possible flooding. Parts of the country staying fully dry though. Top temperatures of 20 to 26 degrees Celsius, in just light variable or northeasterly breezes."
