In a surprise move the Chicago Bears nab what was an elite producer at tackle in Tennessee offensive lineman Darnell Wright.
Wright was dominant in Tennessee, helping one of the top offenses in college football flourish before the Hendon Hooker injury. Wright gave up only five hurries and no sacks on 829 offensive snaps. He was one of the best offensive tackles in the country last year and earned first-team All-SEC honors. He absolutely shut down the top pass rusher in the country in Will Anderson when they faced this season, and will likely hold his own right away at the next level.
The Bears ensured they could protect their franchise quarterback in Justin Fields with an offensive tackle that projects well with a high ceiling in Wright. He has great feet and athleticism. Wright can develop into one of the top tackles in the league quickly. He may need to start at right tackle right away, but has the skill set to switch to be Fields’ blindside protector in the future.
