Instant analysis of the Eagles acquiring RB D’Andre Swift from Detroit

The rich get richer after the Eagles traded a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2023 seventh-round pick to the Lions for Philadelphia native D’Andre Swift and a seventh-round pick.

The Eagles typically operate with a crowded backfield, and Swift will now make six running backs on the current roster and four guys who could potentially see snaps each Sunday.

The move made sense for Detroit after the team signed David Montgomery in free agency and traded up to draft Jahmyr Gibbs out of Alabama.

Here’s an instant analysis of the trade.

Swift, a former second-round pick by the previous Lions staff, has logged 1,680 yards and 18 TDs on 364 carries in three years with Detroit.

A true dual threat, Swift also logged 1,198 receiving yards and seven additional scores on 156 catches.

He’ll complement Rashaad Penny and is a mirror image of Kenneth Gainwell.

Roseman landed Swift and didn’t have to sell the farm, parting ways with a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a seventh-round pick (No. 219).

Philadelphia also acquired another late-round pick for Saturday.

Competition breeds champions, and the running back battle this summer will be something to watch.

Trey Sermons went from potential contributor to fifth on the depth chart after Rashaad Penny’s signing and Swift’s trade.

Kenneth Gainwell is the one player who could feel disgruntled by all the movement at the position.

Familar surroundings

Swift is from Philadelphia and starred at St. Joes Prep. He’ll be surrounded by familiar faces as five Georgia Bulldogs are on the roster.
