The Baltimore Ravens knocked off the Cleveland Browns on Sunday by the final score of 23-20 in a key divisional matchup. The Week 7 win moves them to 4-3 on the 2022 season and still in first place of the AFC North by virtue of a tiebreaker, while Cleveland falls to 3-4.
The contest featured a close finish, with the Ravens being the beneficiary of a Browns false start penalty that pushed a 56-yard field goal attempt to a longer 61-yarder, which was blocked by linebacker Malik Harrison. Cleveland was able to get the attempt by driving down the field on a fumble by running back Justice Hill when Baltimore was deep into Browns territory, giving them a chance to tie or win the game.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson only completed nine passes on 16 attempts, throwing for for 120 yards. The offense ran through the rushing offense, where running back Gus Edwards led the way with 16 carries for 66 yards and two touchdowns in his first competitive game action in 646 days.
On defense, Baltimore was able to sack Cleveland quarterback Jacoby Brissett five times, with big days by defensive lineman Calais Campbell, outside linebacker Justin Houston and inside linebacker Patrick Queen. While they did allow Browns running back to run for 5.7 yards per carry, they limited him somewhat early in the game before giving up chunk runs late.
The Ravens will now have a quick turnaround as they look to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 8 on “Thursday Night Football”. A win would move them to 5-3 on the year, and would go a long way to building on the momentum they created in Week 7 with their win.
