Instant analysis of Colts re-signing OL Matt Pryor

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to bring back pending free agent offensive tackle Matt Pryor.

Details of the deal are still unknown, but this at least gets the wheels turning for the Colts in the free agency market. They also re-signed tight end Mo Alie-Cox and linebacker/special teamer Zaire Franklin to three-year deals.

Pryor joined the Colts just before the 2021 season through a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

While he did not see a ton of action, Pryor provided much-needed depth at a key position that was filled with injuries last year. Bringing him back ensures that depth once again and even gives him a chance to earn the starting job at left tackle.

The Colts are not expected to sign veteran Eric Fisher before free agency officially begins on Wednesday and it remains to be seen how active the front office will be in signing competition for the left tackle spot.

The signing shows that Chris Ballard and the front office want to shore up the offensive line before they go make a move for a quarterback.

Think of this move as a fail-safe in case the Colts can’t upgrade at the tackle position by adding a player like Terron Armstead or Duane Brown.

Expect more depth to be added to the offensive line, especially with the departure of former starting right guard Mark Glowinski.
