A memo to the New York Jets: be careful what you wish for. Surprisingly, Arthur Smith—offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers—has been linked as a candidate for several vacant head coach positions in the NFL.
The Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets are all in the market for a new head coach, and ESPN believes Smith will sign with the latter.
In an ESPN article predicting how these six NFL teams’ head coach searches will end, written by insider Dan Graziano, Smith was connected to the Jets.
One aspect that Steelers fans may find hilarious is Graziano’s argument for why Smith deserves the job:
“For most of this season, he found a way to make some pretty effective chicken salad out of a not-great QB situation in Pittsburgh.”
While QBs Justin Fields and Russell Wilson both had their struggles at different points in 2024, Smith bears more blame for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive collapse in the second half of the season.
