A wild conspiracy theory once suggested that Adele and Sam Smith are actually the same person.
Adele is having a tough time lately, having been forced to halt her Las Vegas residency due to delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The devastated star was due to make millions from the string of concerts at Caesars Palace, and her fans had flown in from all over the world before finding out the shows wouldn't be going ahead.
She's tried to cushion the blow by FaceTiming fans and is still set to pocket a lot of cash through her official merch, but of course her fans will still be gutted.
And according to some conspiracy theorists, they actually have two people to be mad at as they reckon she and Sam Smith are one in the same.
The highly unusual theory came about after a loyal Adele fan discovered that by playing her tune Hello at a slower speed, the track would sound like it was being performed by Sam.
The post quickly sent social media into a meltdown as fans began to dig deeper and draw more connections between the two.
Others said at the time that the British musical icons had never been seen in the same room and the rumour mill quickly erupted into a slew of wild theories.
It all began in January 2018, when a Twitter user made a funny observation that the famous singers had not been seen together.
The Twitter fan wrote: "Anyone notice that Adele isn’t at the Grammys this year? It’s because Adele and Sam Smith are the same person and you’ll never see them both in the same place at the same time."
Over a month later, loyal fans upped the ante when they recorded a clip of Adele's tune being slowed down.
"Did you know that when you slow down Adele it’s actually Sam Smith," the Twitter user wrote.
This theory quickly sent social media into a meltdown as fans hilariously came to the conclusion that they were the same person.
Another fan wrote: "mate. they’re never seen together at the same event. they’re British legends, sing the same genre. legit I’m telling you. *x-files theme tune*."
"So we can listen to Adele's original and Sam's cover on the same vinyl. What a time to be alive," joked another.
Sadly, the theory was somewhat thwarted when a user then tried to speed up a Sam Smith song and it didn't really match to Adele's vocals.
