Inside Tiger Woods' personal life - illicit affairs, '120 women' and car crash

Tiger Woods has enjoyed one of the greatest careers in the history of Golf.

He became the dominant player on the professional circuit in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Woods has confirmed he will play in the iconic Master's tournament in August, Georgie, following his horrific car crash and suffering horrible injuries just over a year ago.

The pro golfer won the U.S. Masters at Augusta in 1997 with a record score at age 21, making him the youngest man and the first African American to earn the title.

Woods won another 13 majors and was named the PGA Player of the Year 10 times over the next 12 years, but he struggled to regain his top form after personal problems surfaced in 2009.

By the age of eight, Woods had become extremely proficient at the game, even showing off his skills on television shows such as Good Morning America.

The next few years brought even more successes, including four U.S. PGA titles, three U.S. Open wins, three Open Championship wins, and three U.S. Masters wins.

Family life, illicit affairs, and car crashes

While Tiger’s life on the golf course was illuminating and he was the world’s first multi-billion-dollar golf player, he faced several issues in his personal life, including extramarital affairs, and he was lucky to be alive after a car accident.

The golf legend was driving his luxury SUV at well over the speed limit in Los Angeles when the car careered off the road and onto a hillside.

Tiger and former Swedish model and au pair Elin Nordegre became engaged in 2003, and married on October 5, 2004, at the Sandy Lane resort in Barbados.

In 2006, they purchased a $39-million estate in Jupiter Island, Florida,

The former couple had two children, a daughter called Sam, and a son called Charlie.

Far from the fantasy of a flourishing marriage, the story broke that Woods had been having an affair with a New York City nightclub hostess called Rachel Uchitel.

Woods reportedly slept with 120 women during his six year marriage to Elin Nordegren.

His reputation was hit by the scandal of his affairs while married to Elin, which led to a hiatus from Pro golf while he attempted to repair his marriage, but subsequently, the marriage didn’t survive the scandal and ended.

Elin filed for divorce in 2010 and as part of a settlement that is thought to have cost Woods around £72 million.

Woods reportedly made a list of all the women he had affairs with as part of his rehabilitation and lost several big sponsorship deals, including Gatorade, AT&T, Accenture and Gillette.

Speaking on the scandal, in February 2010, Woods gave a televised statement in which he said he went through a 45-day sex addiction program and apologised for his actions towards Elin.

He said: "I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to,"

"I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me. I felt I was entitled. Thanks to money and fame, I didn't have to go far to find them. I was wrong. I was foolish."

It is reported Woods lost around £31m in sponsorship deals and his hiatus from golf did not last long, with Woods returning to the links for the Masters in March 2010.
