Inside the immersive storytelling room opening at new-look Central Library opening this year

New photos show the immersive storytelling room which will be at the heart of the new Central Library set to open this year. It appears that the story telling room will have a space for children to sit in the middle whilst the walls of the room can show images related to what they are reading.

This immersive room will be located within the high quality Children's Library at the new site, which will also have an extensive book collection and comfortable areas to sit and read. There will also be featured book walls to display a large collection of books, free Wi-Fi and creative design areas.

There will also be a learning lab for special activities and school class visits, in addition to an exhibition space, meeting rooms and study spaces. The new Nottingham Central Library is due to open towards the end of 2023 in the Broad Marsh regeneration area.

Currently books and other resources are being moved across to the new library, with members of staff busy unpacking and shelving books and installing IT equipment. In addition to all the new facilities, the Nottingham Local Studies Library is also being moved to the new site.

Cllr Pavlos Kotsonis, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said; “It’s an exciting time for the Central Library, as we get ready for our opening later this year. We’ve taken back the library from our interior fit-out partners Overbury’s, but there is still a lot of work to do inside, including setting up the immersive storytelling room.

“Immersive storytelling is a unique, state-of-the-art technology that allows people to be transported into the world of stories, giving them a real sense of ‘being there’. We have really put children and learning at the heart of this library, not only with immersive storytelling, but with the dedicated children’s library and a learning lab for special activities and school visits.

“The new library, which is spread over three floors, will have extensive book collections, comfortable seating, a café, performance and exhibition space, plus meeting rooms and creative design areas and so much more. There really is something for everyone and we can’t wait for people to experience our fantastic library when we open.”
